Woodstock police arrested a man accused of shooting his neighbor’s dog Monday.

Steve Franklin was charged with reckless conduct after firing a round at a dog in a mobile home park on Fountain Drive, Lt. Jay Baker, a spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, said.

He was released from jail Monday on a $1,250 bond.

Franklin told deputies he fired the round behind the dog to scare it, Baker said, noting there was a mobile home with three people inside near where Franklin shot the dog.

A volunteer with a local animal rescue said the pit bull type dog was digging in the trash just before it was shot, Jolynn VanCamp, president of Second Chance Animal Rescue & Adoption, said in an email.

The volunteer woman, Sandy Cole, brought the dog to a local veterinarian, but the dog died from its injuries, VanCamp said.
