Alpharetta police say their investigation into a shooting death Thursday is in the early stages. However, their questioning of two people who knew the victim has led to other charges.

Police charged two people with obstruction Thursday night after they would not allow police to search their vehicle, police spokesman George Gordon said Friday in an email. Police K9 drug-detection dogs “alerted” to the presence of drugs in a vehicle when Alpharetta detectives were questioning the friends of the victim “subsequent to the investigation.” The names were not released.

The shooting death occurred at the Preserve at Academy townhome community on Wade Creek Road. Police were alerted about 9:50 a.m., after the caller said a gunshot sound had been heard. The body of a 21-year-old man was found on the floor inside a townhome.

Authorities still have not released the name of the victim.
