Within hours of finding a 48-year-old McDonough man dead in his truck at an apartment complex off Johnson Road, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office knew who their suspects were.

And on Friday, authorities said they had both suspects in the Monday night shooting death of Lee Marvin Hardeman in custody.

Investigators believe Latres Deandre Peters, 25, of Conyers, got into an argument with Hardeman before the shooting at the Ashford Brook apartment complex on Rockmont Circle. Orlando Cornelius Middlebrooks, 33, also of Conyers, allegedly shot at the truck multiple times as Hardeman drove way, killing him.

It was not immediately clear what Peters and Hardeman argued about, how Peters and Middlebrooks were related, why Middlebrooks fired at Hardeman’s truck or what led authorities to the suspects.

But by 1 a.m. Tuesday, authorities had taken Peters into custody in Rex, Ga., on a charge of hindering apprehension or punishment of criminal, Rockdale sheriff’s Cpl. Michael Camp said. That same day, a murder warrant was issued for Middlebrooks, who was arrested two days later by sheriff’s investigators and members of the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Middlebrooks was a passenger in a vehicle in DeKalb County at the time of his arrest Thursday afternoon, Camp said.

Middlebrooks and Peters were in the Rockdale County Jail without bond on Friday.
