Atlanta police officers were investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night.

The pedestrian was hit by a tow truck on University Avenue, east of Pryor Road, in southwest Atlanta about 9:30 p.m., police said.

Officer Ralph Woolfolk said the pedestrian was about six feet outside of the crosswalk. The tow truck driver initially left the scene but then returned while police were there investigating, Woolfolk said.

“That individual has been detained,” Woolfolk said. “We are now talking with the Fulton County District Attorney about whether there will be charges filed.”

Police did not release any identities of the people involved.
