A pedestrian was hit and killed by a minivan Tuesday morning while walking through a busy Cobb County intersection, police said.

The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. at  Cobb Parkway and Acworth Summit Boulevard, Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Sydney Melton said. The driver stayed on scene to speak with investigators.

Authorities said a silver Honda Odyssey traveling south on U.S. 41 struck the pedestrian, who was crossing in or near a crosswalk but did not have the right of way. It was also still dark at the time of the crash, and visibility was low, police said.

The pedestrian was identified Thursday as 50-year-old Sonny Ditomaso of Acworth.

The driver of the Honda is not expected to face charges, police said.
