Police are investigating after a 43-year-old man was hit by a car and killed Saturday in Marietta.

The incident happened shortly before 5:15 p.m. near the View 75 Apartments in the 1000 block of Franklin Gateway, Marietta Officer Jared Rakestraw said.

Police said Darrell Mobley, 35, was traveling south on Franklin Gateway in his 2008 Infiniti.

“For reasons unknown, a pedestrian darted into Mobley’s lane of travel,” Rakestraw said. “Mobley was unable to avoid the pedestrian and a collision occurred.”

Emergency crews took the man to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
