A pedestrian died Sunday after being hit by a MARTA bus while walking in a crosswalk, Atlanta police said.

Officers were sent to the area of H.E. Holmes Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive about 1:15 p.m., according to police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant.

Investigators at the scene determined the pedestrian was run over by the bus while crossing MLK Drive, Grant said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Criminal charges against the driver are pending.
