A patient who stole an ambulance outside a DeKalb County hospital was arrested after crashing, police said.

The 21-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, stole the ambulance outside DeKalb Memorial Hospital, Major Stephen Fore, a spokesman for DeKalb County police, said.

She drove away before crashing the ambulance at Memorial Drive and Hambrick Road, Fore said.

Then, when she got out of the emergency vehicle, she got in fight with a pursuing officer, Fore said. The officer arrested her.

No injuries were reported, but the force of the collision between the ambulance and a Mercedes took the tires off the luxury car, a witness told Channel 2 Action News.

The woman, who was wearing only a hospital gown, was put in a police patrol car and taken to a mental health facility, according to Channel 2, which Fore later confirmed.

Police told Channel 2 the woman faces vehicle theft and obstruction charges.
