A woman was charged with DUI and homicide by vehicle after the car she was driving left the road and hit a utility pole in northwest Atlanta, killing her passenger, police said.

Shetabia Johnson also was charged with failure to maintain lane, Officer Jarius Daugherty said Wednesday in a statement.

About 5 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the crash in the 900 block of Bolton Road, according to police.

“Officers also observed an adult female, who died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, in the front passenger seat of the vehicle,” he said.

Johnson was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, then was booked into the Fulton County Jail after being released from Grady.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

The investigation continues.
