Only in Florida: Man allegedly steals $48K hospital bed

Lance James Sayre was not a patient, employee or a vendor when authorities say he took a nearly $48,000 operating bed from a Florida hospital.

Yes, you read that right. An operating bed.

According to an arrest report obtained by multiple media outlets, Sayre, 52, of Tampa, entered the operating room area of Clearwater’s Morton Plant Hospital just before 2 p.m. July 5, took the bed, rolled it to a loading dock and packed it into a van.

The incident, according to reports, was captured on surveillance video.

Sayre was arrested July 11 on charges of burglary and grand theft and released the same day on $15,000 bond, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office records.
