The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified a man Thursday who was shot and killed walking home from a store overnight in southwest Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The victim, 33-year-old Larry Cooper, suffered injuries to the torso consistent with gunfire, the medical examiner told Channel 2.

Police were still searching for a suspect early Thursday that they said fired shots from a car that hit and killed the victim.

Investigators told Channel 2 the man later identified as Cooper is believed to be the intended target. Someone found his body in the middle of the street on Pinehurst Terrace.

“The victim lives in the area not too far from where he was found,” Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton said.

He was almost home when he was killed, Hampton told Channel 2.

Police are not sure why the man was shot but were looking into a motive early Thursday.

No other details were released.
