A Gordon County man is behind bars after he repeatedly stabbed his mother during an altercation at their home Monday evening, authorities said.

Deputies were dispatched to a home on Landing Drive near Resaca about 11:20 p.m. after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance, said Robert Paris, chief deputy of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office.

Police arrived to find a 63-year-old woman bleeding in the front yard from multiple cuts and stab wounds, Paris said.
Inside the home, deputies found the woman's son, 46-year-old Donald Dwayne Oliver, sitting on the couch. They also recovered a knife believed to be used in the stabbing.

It’s unclear what led to the altercation.

Oliver was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He remains held at the Gordon County Jail without bond.

Oliver’s mother was released from the hospital Tuesday and is expected to recover, police said.
