A northwest Georgia man pleaded guilty to federal charges for making pornography of two minors who were in his care.

Daniel Strickland, 46, of Chatsworth, could spend as many as 25 years in a federal prison after he admitted to producing child porn, U.S. Attorney BJay Pak said.

The Murray County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI opened an investigation in February 2019 after hearing allegations that Strickland had abused a minor he was supposed to be caring for, Pak said.

The investigation revealed Strickland had taken sexually explicit photos of the minor and another girl that he previously babysat, Pak said.

In July 2019, Strickland pleaded guilty to two counts of child molestation in Murray County Superior Court. Four months later, he was indicted by a federal grand jury.

Strickland is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 16.

“Under the terms of Strickland’s plea agreement, the government and Strickland are recommending that the court impose a sentence of between 20 and 25 years in prison,” Pak said.
