Two suspects were injured in a deputy-involved shooting Friday night in the Village at Ellington subdivision on Brown Bridge Road near Covington, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Cortney Morrison said the incident began after two deputies made a traffic stop in the subdivision. Authorities believed the vehicle had been involved in another crime, she said.
During the traffic stop, a “situation” occurred in which deputies shot both suspects, Morrison said. Both have been transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds, she said.
Morrison said the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is on scene and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate.
