Newnan police are investigating the death of a young man whose body was found in a creek Thursday as a homicide.

The body of the black male, who appeared to be in his late teens, was found Thursday afternoon in a creek off Calhoun Street, according to Newnan police Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs.

Riggs said in an email that the body appeared to have been in the creek for several days.

There was no identification on the body, but Riggs said detectives have been able to make a tentative identification.

Police are “treating this case as a homicide,” he said, adding that the body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
