New details emerged Tuesday in the case of a man charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend in the parking lot of an Alpharetta bank.

Detectives testified in court that Othniel Inniss, 58, gunned down Tynesha Evans last month after an argument over a cellphone and accusations of an affair, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Evans, a 45-year-old mother of four, was shot to death March 16 in downtown Alpharetta.

An armed witness held Inniss, Evans’ “on-again, off-again boyfriend,” at gunpoint until police arrived and charged him with murder.

Police testified during a probable cause hearing Tuesday that Inniss told them he didn’t even remember pulling the trigger.

“He commented that he drew his gun in order to scare her into giving his phone back,” Alpharetta police Detective David Bochnika said.

Police said Inniss told them he met Evans at the bank to give her $380 for her late rent payment when the two began to argue over an alleged affair.

According to police, Inniss tried to record the argument on his phone when Evans reportedly took it from him.

“At one point he says in the video that if she comes at him, he’s going to knock her out,” Bochnika said. “Shortly after, you hear Ms. Evans say, ‘Shoot me, shoot me,’ upon which Mr. Inniss yells for her to give back his phone, shoots her and then yells for her to give back his phone.”

Inniss filed police reports about his girlfriend twice before, once in 2017 and again in February, Channel 2 reported. One of the calls was for harassment and the other was for not giving his cellphone back.

Atlanta-based director and filmmaker Tyler Perry offered to help Evans’ children financially after their mother was killed.
