Nearly 200 rounds fired in deadly shooting

Police are looking for the people who fired off nearly 200 rounds and killed a young father outside a southwest Atlanta apartment complex.

Atlanta police believe the father, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as 25-year-old Terrance Paige, was targeted Tuesday while visiting someone at the Sunny Cascade complex in the 400 block of Fairburn Road.

The shooting started at one end of the complex and ended in another, according to Channel 2 Action News. Paige of Atlanta ran through the breezeway and into the parking lot as the shots rang out.

Junior Cople, a witness of the shooting, told Channel 2 some shooters fired from the trunk of a car. It was not immediately clear how many times Paige was hit. His body was found in the parking lot.

“There were several scenes associated with this incident,” Atlanta police Officer Kim Jones said.

Immediately following the shooting, at least one person sped from the complex, wrecked in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, exited the vehicle and ran away, police said.

“Evidence connected with this incident was located on the CSX railroad tracks nearby, and CSX stopped any passing trains until the evidence was processed and collected,” Jones said.

The vehicle was taken to the Atlanta Police Department homicide cage for processing, she said.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the shooting, which they are investigating as a homicide.
