Nine years after a man was pistol-whipped, shot and left for dead outside his home, his family is turning to the public for answers about who killed him.

At a news conference Thursday, Mona Lee and Atlanta detectives urged those who have any information about her son Courtney Lee’s death to come forward.

“We do need closure and my grandkids need closure, too,” she said.

Courtney Lee, 23, was pistol-whipped near his car at the Overlook Atlanta apartments in April 2007, Det. David Quinn said. By the time security guard Anthony Jones was told about the incident, the alleged shooter shot Lee and fired a shot at Jones.

Jones shot back, but the shooter drove away in a black Pontiac Grand Am.

Courtney Lee was a construction worker for the city and had a child on the way.

“My son worked,” Mona Lee said. “He didn’t bother anybody. I just need some closure for me and my family.”

There haven’t been any recent findings in the case, but police are hoping the murmurs that followed the case may bring them some leads.

“We know people saw what happened,” Quinn said. “There was a lot of chatter that was going on after the murder, but that chatter never made it to the police.”

Quinn described the alleged gunman as 6 foot 2, medium to brown complexion with shoulder-length two-toned dreads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and receive a $2,000 reward.
