Mother says her son was shot, killed over cigarettes

His mother told Channel 2 Action News??that police have good leads in the search for her son?€™s killer.

A Clayton County woman said her son was shot to death at an apartment complex after he refused to sell a gunman cigarettes, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Bra’vion Canty, 25, was killed after he told the gunman to stop bothering him and his family, his mother told the news station.

The fatal shooting happened about midnight Wednesday at the Laurel Park Apartments in Riverdale, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Canty’s mother, Brenda Jackson, told Channel 2 three men came up to her daughter’s apartment unit while she and her son were on the patio. They asked if they could buy some cigarettes, she said.

“And my son told them we don’t sell cigarettes over here,” Jackson said.

The men insisted they did, she told the news station. She said the gunman told her and her son he ran the apartment complex and then made a gang reference.

“He lifted up his shirt and showed he had a gun,” she said.

Jackson said her son told the men to leave. He followed the group and told them to leave his family alone, she told Channel 2.

Then, Jackson said she heard a bunch of gunshots.

“I say ‘please find my son, find my son,” Jackson said.

She found him laying on the ground.

Police are looking for the group of men involved in Canty’s death. Jackson said detectives told her they have “good leads” in the case.
