Authorities are investigating after a 3-month-old girl was found dead in a North Georgia home early Labor Day morning.

Gordon County sheriff's deputies and medical officials found the child dead at a North Airport Circle home near the Whitfield County line about 7 a.m. Monday, according to a news release on the sheriff's office's website.

Witnesses told investigators the baby was alive and well about midnight and said they called 911 when they realized “she had expired,” according to the release.

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner's office is conducting an investigation. The GBI Crime Lab is handling the autopsy.

No other details were released.
