Three men have been arrested in different states in connection with a robbery and deadly shooting at a northwest Atlanta apartment complex, authorities said.
Darryl Dennis, 22, was shot six times and killed Dec. 3, and all three suspects were captured within the past week, officials said.
Dedric Garrett of Douglasville was arrested last Thursday by Atlanta police, according to jail records.
Markeivous Smith, 25, was found the next day at a business in Springfield, Mo., and arrested without incident, U.S. Marshal Mark S. James of the Western District of Missouri said in a news release Thursday. Smith is from there, officials said.
The last suspect, Marcius Reed, was captured in Belleville, Ill., on Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Task Force.
All three had active arrest warrants for murder and armed robbery, the release said.
According to an Atlanta police incident report obtained by AJC.com, police responded to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Marietta Street shortly before 5:15 p.m. Dec. 3.
A man wearing only one shoe with a laceration on his chin was found walking outside the complex, and he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and interviewed, the report said. Officers were directed to a unit at the complex, where they found Dennis lying on the kitchen floor with a 9mm pistol under his body.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police believe he exchanged gunfire with the three suspects, and they escaped through a bedroom window. The air conditioning unit below the window was severely dented.
Money, large amounts of marijuana and seven shell casings from 9mm, .40-caliber and .45-caliber pistols were found in the apartment, according to police.
Garrett remains in the Fulton County Jail without bond, records show. It is not clear when Smith and Reed will be extradited to Georgia.
