Marietta police have arrested a convicted South Carolina sex offender they say tried to arrange a meeting with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.
Danny Wayne Long, 48, of Greenville, S.C., turned himself in Monday on a single count of computer pornography. The investigation began last June, when, according to Marietta police, he posted an ad on the Atlanta Craigslist page.
An undercover officer posing as a young girl responded and Long “initiated a meeting with the child at Dave and Busters in Marietta,” warrants alleged. Long never showed, but he and the officer began to exchange text messages that included explicit photos.
Long later “confessed to placing the ad, making the texts, sending the photos and discussing sex with a minor,” warrants said.
According to published media reports, Long has been arrested on similar charges in South Carolina twice, including one incident just last year. He is being held without bond at the Cobb County jail.
