A Marietta man was arrested in Cobb County and sent to Connecticut to face charges in connection with an “elaborate phone scam scheme,” according to multiple media reports.

Kevin Ortega, 21, was arrested during a traffic stop at West Atlanta Street and Carruth Drive on Dec. 17 because he had active warrants from Connecticut State Police, according to his Cobb arrest warrant.

He's accused of scamming thousands of dollars from a 78-year-old earlier this year, the Danbury-based News-Times reported. In February, he allegedly called the resident and pretended to be a government employee as part of the scam.
