A man accused of running away from a crash in early May was found dead in a Gwinnett County lake Monday morning, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office found the body of 24-year-old Alec Davis in a neighborhood lake near Landover Crossing and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Channel 2 Action News reported. His cause of death has not been released, but there is no indication of foul play.

On May 4, he allegedly ran away from a crash that happened nearby, but Suwanee police haven’t figured out why he fled, Channel 2 reported. It’s also unclear what happened between then and his death.

Before the body was recovered, Davis’ mother told the news station she wants answers, regardless of what those answers might be.

“If he ran, why did he run? There are so many questions that we don’t have answers to,” Amy Durham said. “Every possible scenario has gone through our heads whether we like it or not because every day brings a new emotion.”

An investigation is ongoing.
