A man who walked into a Cobb County mental health facility Wednesday afternoon and fought with staff members before opening fire has been captured, police said.
No injuries were reported, but the man ran into a nearby neighborhood, where Cobb County and Smyrna police officers were searching for him. A man believed to be the gunman was captured about 3:15 p.m.
The Ridgeview Mental Health Facility is located at 3995 South Cobb Drive in Smyrna.
Ridge Road Southeast was closed from South Cobb Drive to Atlanta Road in Smyrna during the search.
Griffin Middle School and King Springs Elementary in Smyrna were on “Code Yellow” lockdowns for a short period of time due to “an overabundance of caution,” the Georgia State Patrol said. The lockdowns were lifted by 3:15 p.m. and buses will run from both schools.
