As a Roswell resident walked and listened to his AirPods last week, two men approached him from behind.
Before the resident knew what happened, he was hit with a pistol and robbed, police told Channel 2 Action News.
The victim had been walking on Grimes Bridge Road last Thursday night when the two thieves took advantage of his obliviousness, Roswell police spokesman Officer Sean Thompson told Channel 2.
The moments before the incident were captured on a security camera. The video, which was obtained by Channel 2, appears to show the men follow the victim before all three walk out of the camera’s view.
Police said one of the men tried to pretend he was lost and asked the victim for directions. That’s when the other thief, armed with a gun, ambushed and robbed him.
“The victim tried to run, and the man that was holding the gun pistol-whipped the victim in the back of the head several times,” Thompson said.
The thieves were gone when officers arrived. When the victim was hit by the gun, his AirPods came out of his ears and were subsequently run over by a car on the street, Channel 2 reported. He is expected to be OK.
The items the two men stole were not released.
Police believe they were looking for an easy target, such as a person wearing ear buds who might not be able to hear their surroundings.
“Don’t be an easy victim,” Thompson said. “You can recognize a lot of these things before anything even happens. They’re looking for an easy target.”
