The man who Fulton County police have declared a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old College Park girl on the Fourth of July turned himself in Wednesday afternoon.

Marcel Smith, 23, turned himself in to the Fulton County Jail around 4 p.m. after warrants were issued for his arrest. Authorities said they were forced to obtain warrants because Smith would not come in for questioning as a person of interest.

Smith allegedly was responsible for the accidental shooting of Rasheedah Evans, 16, who died in her home while watching a movie on the night of July 4. According to police, Evans may have been hit by a bullet shot during celebratory gunfire.

Smith is being charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct and booked into the Fulton County Jail, police said in a news release.

Another person of interest in the case, 35-year-old Curtis Cohen, of Morrow, was cleared after speaking with investigators, police said Tuesday.
