Footage from a body camera shows a man pulling a handgun on three Oconee County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night, officials said Thursday.

The man, whose name has not been released, pointed a gun directly at the deputies as they tried to arrest him on battery and child cruelty charges, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said the man locked himself in a bedroom and officers heard the sound of the gun loading and the sliding of the rack. When deputies unlocked the door, the man aimed the gun at them, but did not shoot.

Cpl. Adam Thrower shot the man in the chest, causing him to fall to the floor and drop the gun, the sheriff’s office said.

The man is getting treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Warrants were taken out for the man’s arrest, the sheriff’s office said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating, but could not be reached for comment.
