Police are investigating a homicide at a strip mall parking lot in unincorporated Norcross.
Shots rang out in the middle of the crowded parking lot in the 6000 block of South Norcross Tucker Road during rush hour Wednesday, a witness told Channel 2 Action News.
"I was here inside the store, and then I heard two gunshots," witness Irving Gaona said. "Very loud. Then I'm coming out and I saw one guy laid down in front of the parking lot.”
He ran to see what happened and found the victim bleeding.
“He was full of blood," Gaona said.
According to Gwinnett County police, who responded about 5:30 p.m., the victim had one gunshot wound to his upper body.
He was found outside his vehicle. Police spokesman Cpl. Wilbert Rundles said investigators believe he was shot inside his car.
“How he got out of the car we're still investigating,” he told the news station. “If someone, a passerby or a witness, pulled him out to administer help, or if he was able to get out.”
He was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries, Rundles said. His name hasn’t been released because relatives have not been notified. Officials said he is in his 40s or 50s.
Witnesses spoke to police on the scene, and the information that was gathered led detectives to a person of interest, who was found at a different location, Rundles said. No other details have been released.
An investigation is ongoing.
