Investigators said the incident started outside a Wendy’s restaurant on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Police on the scene of an active investigation say two groups of people in two cars exchanged gunfire outside a Wendy's in southwest Atlanta about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A 15-year-old, later identified as Lorenzo Bernstein, was shot and died at Grady Memorial Hospital, while a second 15-year-old drove a red Lexus from the Wendy’s on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive to Fairburn Road.

Bernstein was in the Lexus, police said.

That second 15-year-old was shot at an apartment complex on Fairburn Road, which is about three miles from the Wendy's, Atlanta homicide detective Lt. Charles Hampton told Channel 2 Action News. He is in critical condition.
