Douglas County sheriff’s deputies Thursday were investigating an overnight shooting at an apartment complex near Austell that left a man dead.

The shooting happened at the Birch Landing Apartments on Maxham Road.

“We had neighbors saying they heard some shots fired, and when we started looking in the area and started knocking on doors and checking the area, we found the deceased inside an apartment,” Douglas County sheriff’s Capt. Bruce Ferguson told Channel 2 Action News.

Investigators have not released the victim’s name or a motive for the shooting.
