A man is in the hospital after someone he met online went to his southwest Atlanta apartment, tried to rob him and shot him.

Officers were sent to the Villages at Carver Apartments on Moury Avenue about 1:40 a.m. Monday to investigate a reported shooting, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said in a statement.

Police found the 34-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Investigators determined he invited a man he met online to his apartment, Avery said. As the man was getting ready to leave, he pulled out a gun and demanded money, according to police.

The victim was shot as he and the man fought over the gun. He was taken to a hospital, where he is stable.

The other man ran away after the shooting and has not been arrested.

An investigation is ongoing.
