A man pleaded guilty this week to killing an 87-year-old driver in a Forsyth County crash last year while he was under the influence of drugs, according to court documents.

Brandon Anthony Schneider, 27, was the at-fault driver in the fatal head-on collision on Canton Highway, the Superior Court of Forsyth County confirmed to AJC.com.

Schneider was sentenced to 25 years, with 10 to serve in prison and the rest on probation.

The fatal wreck occurred on July 18, 2018, when Schneider crossed the yellow median in a Lexus sedan and collided with a Chevrolet Cruze, police said at the time.

The passenger of the Cruze, Connie Mack Lathem, died at North Fulton Hospital. His wife, Bunia Lathem, 74, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, AJC.com previously reported.

Schneider was also treated for non life-threatening injuries.

He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle, homicide by vehicle, driving on the wrong side of roadway, and reckless driving.
