A man was convicted of molesting a 5-year-old girl while he was renting a room at her grandmother’s house in Gwinnett County, authorities said.

Daniel Wilfredo Ramirez-Ortiz, 36, was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by one year of probation last Friday, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

However, he has a hold with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and will be deported, the release said.

Ramirez-Ortiz was found guilty of three counts of child molestation for groping the child over her clothes during the summer of 2017, the release said. During the trial, multiple other women testified to similar interactions with Ramirez-Ortiz years prior.

Assistant District Attorney Matt Acuff argued to the jury that “the child victim had no legitimate reason to make up the allegations,” the release said.

As of Friday afternoon, Ramirez-Ortiz remained in the Gwinnett County Jail, according to jail records.
