Authorities have arrested a 31-year-old woman on murder and child cruelty charges after a deadly stabbing Saturday night at a northeast Georgia home.
Habersham County deputies responding to the home on Ben Loudermilk Road found the victim, identified as 37-year-old Joshua Matthew Canady of Toccoa, lying on the floor, according to the sheriff’s office. They also found Kayla Marie Parker and her two young children inside.
Deputies tried to administer CPR until medics arrived, but Canady was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Parker was not arrested until the next day. Initially, investigators were told the stabbing was self-inflicted, sheriff’s Lt. Matt Wurtz told AJC.com. She and Canady were in a relationship and living together at Parker’s Mt. Airy home, he said.
Investigators obtained warrants for Parker’s arrest about 4 p.m. Sunday on charges of murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and two counts of cruelty to children.
She is being held in the Habersham County Jail. The motive behind the stabbing is still under investigation, officials said.
“The investigation remains ongoing and further details will be released as they become available,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
