Friends and family of Enrique Trejo aren’t shocked to hear he offered three men a ride home after work.

It was just in his nature, his son, Luis Trejo, told Channel 2 Action News.

“Probably seeing three kids in the middle of the night, he was like ‘oh they probably do need a ride,’” Luis Trejo said.

But the men instead used the free ride to shoot, kill and dump Enrique Trejo's body on the side of the road, officials said.

Trejo was leaving his job at El Charro Restaurant along Covington Bypass before stopping at a Shell gas station.

Police say three men were seen on a survielance tape apparently asking Trejo asking for a ride Saturday night, but a few minutes into the trip, allegedly shot and killed him.

The elder Trejo was found with multiple bullet wounds, lying in a drainage culvert along Lower River Road, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Police spotted Trejo’s Ford Expedition on Sunday and pulled the car over.

“The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop which led to a car chase,” Officer Allan Seebran told Channel 2. “The victim’s vehicle came to a dead end and four suspects got out and ran.”

Police charged Antavian Love of Covington with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft by taking and theft by receiving.

Love could get additional charges, police said. Two other men were arrested, Channel 2 reported, but their names and charges were not released. A fourth man got away.

Employees at El Charro's are wearing black ribbons and reminding people what a good guy Trejo was, Channel 2 reported. Trejo worked at the restaurant for more than 25 years, according to a GoFundMe page set up for him.

The father of five was known to be a “hardworking man, always joking with customers,” the post read.

“We’re trying to honor him and make sure everyone knows that we all cared about him,” Kathleen Toribio told the news station.

Still, with all the arrests, love and support, Trejo’s family still has questions.

“Why would you do that to a guy, who’s offering you a favor? A ride?” Luis Trejo told Channel 2, “And you, just to shoot him, and just leave him, I don’t think that’s right.”

Trejo's family set up a GoFundMe account to cover funeral costs. El Charro Restauraunt is also accepting donations at their Covington locations. Donations reached $4,575 after 6:30 p.m.
