A man was shot and killed Wednesday night after pulling a gun on his son, DeKalb County police said.
Just after 11 p.m., officers responded to a call about a shooting at a home in the 700 block of Wetherborn Place near Stone Mountain, DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Heran Parkin, 53, was dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Duran Parkin, the shooter and Heran Parkin’s 30-year-old son, was on the scene waiting for police, Fore said.
“Preliminary evidence suggests that during a domestic dispute at the home Heran retrieved a weapon and pointed the weapon at Duran,” he said in a statement. “In response, Duran produced his weapon and fired striking Heran who died at the scene.”
Police said at least six people were in the house at the time of the shooting. Officers questioned them and the son.
“At this point in the investigation, it does not appear Duran will be facing any charges,” Fore said in the statement. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
