Man held Georgia mall security guard at gunpoint during attempted robbery

Police are searching for two men after an attempted armed robbery at Arbor Place mall in Douglasville on Friday.

A security guard at the mall had a gun held to his neck in a bathroom before the gunman asked for his phone, cash and wallet, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The security guard’s wife, Amanda McDonald, told Channel 2 her husband carries handcuffs, which likely scared the would-be robber. Her husband asked Channel 2 to remain anonymous during the ongoing investigation.

“(The gunman) paused and kind of pulled the gun away from his neck just enough that my husband grabbed that hand, and they started fighting over the gun,” she said. “(My husband) managed to get a few licks in on him.”

The attacker was joined by a second man when they fled the scene, and McDonald told the news station she believes the second suspect was a lookout. The only thing stolen was a pocketknife.

Regardless, she’s grateful her husband wasn’t hurt.

“Honestly, it scared me to death,” she said. “I don’t know what I’d do without my husband.”

Douglasville police told Channel 2 one suspect was wearing light-colored acid-washed jeans and a white shirt, while the other was wearing red athletic shorts and a white sweatshirt. Both men are believed to be in their early 20s.
