A 25-year-old man who groomed and molested two foster children at his mother’s home in Floyd County was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Daniel Adam Williams pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of aggravated child molestation and three counts of child molestation for abusing the children between September 2017 and June 2018, District Attorney Leigh Patterson said.

Authorities said Williams, who was once in foster care himself, groomed the children for months by buying them things before the abuse began. The children had been fostered by Williams’ adopted mother and were 10 and 12 years old at the time of the abuse, prosecutors said.

The children were eventually removed from the home because of a lice outbreak. Williams was charged in September after one of his victims reported the ongoing sexual abuse.

The children have since been placed with a different family.

“This case shows the good and the bad of the foster care system,” Patterson said. “The family they were put with — this guy abused the two children. But the next family they were placed with has been excellent and wonderful. They’re thriving.”

Once he is out of prison, Williams must spend the rest of his life on supervised release.
