An Atlanta man was sentenced Tuesday to life plus five years in prison without parole in a drug deal-turned-murder cold case.
Travaris Hardy, 35, was convicted of murder, felony murder, armed robbery and other charges, according to a release Tuesday from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident took place in 2008 when Marcus Shirley and his girlfriend drove from Mississippi to Atlanta to buy marijuana, according to the release. The couple, along with Shirley’s cousin and her boyfriend, Kevin Milton, agreed to buy the drugs for $1,400 at a South Fulton County apartment complex, the release said.
When they arrived, Milton and Shirley got out of the car and were robbed, according to the release. The girlfriends were still inside the car.
Shirley was shot three times and killed, while Milton was assaulted before he ran to a wooded area near the apartment complex and escaped, according to the release.
Two years later, police received a tip that connected Hardy to the murder, according to the release. Hardy’s blood also matched that found at the crime scene.
