The Newton County Sheriff's Office now knows the name of the man found shot to death on a neighborhood street. But investigators had not made an arrest in the case early Wednesday.
Caylen Gooch, 19, was found lying in the road early Tuesday in the Pebble Brook neighborhood, off Browns Bridge Road near Covington, the Sheriff’s Office said. Gooch had been shot to death.
“The Newton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division continues to identify and interview people as they follow up on leads in this murder investigation,” the Sheriff’s Office said in an emailed statement Wednesday.
At the time of his death, Gooch was not carrying identification, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was later identified as a Newton County resident and his family was notified of his death.
On Gooch’s Facebook page, friends posted notes of shock and sympathy for the former student at Newton High School, who turned 19 in June. Gooch’s father asked for privacy in a post on his son’s page.
“We ask that you please give us time to process my son Caylen’s passing and allow us the family to have this moment to grieve,” Clyde Gooch posted. “Continue with the tributes, post etc, as we solicit all your prayers………….thank you and may God bless you all.”
