Officials in Hall County said a man who wielded a knife against a group trying to attack his relative wounded four people — including the family member he was protecting.

The 19-year-old Buford man is not expected to face charges in the incident, which happened shortly before 4:45 p.m. Saturday in the Yacht Club Road Park, according to Hall sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth.

The relative, who is also 19 years old, was attacked by several men, Booth said.

The Buford man pulled out the knife and intervened to “protect the (relative) from further harm,” according to the sheriff’s office.

At some point during the altercation, the relative received a stab wound to the ankle. The cut is believed to be an “unintended injury” from the Buford man’s knife, Booth said.

The relative and three other men were taken to a hospital. None of the wounds were life-threatening.

Investigators are still working to determine how two 18-year-olds who were taken to the hospital with stab wounds were involved in the incident.

Terry Holifield, 21, Raylon Long, 19, Trenton Wilson, 19, and Paul Markeese King, 21, were charged with battery, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The victim and one of the suspects had previously been involved in a dispute,” Booth said.

King, who was among the men hospitalized in the incident, was arrested by the Hall sheriff’s office following his release from the hospital.

All four men were taken to the Hall County Jail.  All but Long were released on $5,700 bond, according to Booth.

The case is still under investigation.
