A high-speed chase in Atlanta ended with a man in handcuffs and ounces of cocaine and heroin being seized, authorities said.

The incident began shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when troopers attempted to stop a driver who was following another vehicle too closely on I-20, the Georgia State Patrol said. Instead, the vehicle’s driver is accused of speeding away onto I-285.

A pursuit ensued southbound on the interstate and ended near Cascade Road, when a trooper performed a PIT maneuver, GSP said. In footage from NewsChopper 2, a sedan was seen facing the wrong direction on the interstate next to a trooper’s patrol car.

The vehicle’s driver, Michael Timothy Mack, 45, of Decatur, was taken into custody, GSP said. During a search of the man’s vehicle, troopers discovered two ounces of both heroin and cocaine, authorities said.

As a result, Mack faces counts of trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine, fleeing police and following too closely, GSP said.

The wreck blocked the interstate for a few minutes, but authorities quickly moved the crash to the right shoulder and reopened travel lanes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Mack was handed over to Atlanta police and booked into the Fulton County jail, according to jail records. He remained in custody Wednesday afternoon without bond.
