The man arrested by Atlanta police and charged with murder in the death of a 9-month-old boy will remain in jail after he did not receive bond during a court appearance Monday.

Jaquest Deeric Norris waived his case which was reset for Dec. 14, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said Monday.

Norris, 26, was arrested in the death of Monte Jones, police said Sunday. He was then taken to Fulton County Jail.

Monte Jones’ mother went to work Nov. 9, leaving him and her two other children in the care of a neighbor at her Campbellton Road apartment, police have said. Several hours later, she got a call summoning her to the hospital.

Monte — who showed signs of blunt force trauma and sexual assault — died two days later. Police have not provided further information about what they believe happened to the child.

Monte's mother previously said she believed Norris is related to the neighbor who was caring for her children. Jail records suggested Norris was also wanted out of Escambia County, Fla.
