A Decatur man has been arrested in connection with the October shooting death of a 58-year-old who got involved in a domestic dispute at a DeKalb County apartment complex, authorities said.

De’monte Lamar Anderson, 24, was arrested Wednesday and charged with the murder of Dwayne Bernard Roberts, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Police believe Anderson shot Roberts twice following a physical struggle between Anderson and another woman, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots at the Aspen Woods Apartments on Flat Shoals Road about 5 a.m Oct. 20, Vincent said previously.  After speaking with witnesses, police determined Anderson assaulted a woman before shooting Roberts, she said.

It’s still unclear how Roberts got involved in the couple’s fight, however.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by Roberts' family, the 58-year-old was an Uber driver who had just dropped the woman off when she was attacked by her boyfriend.  The page said the Lithonia man was killed after intervening in the physical altercation, but DeKalb police would not confirm that.

“We have no record of him being an Uber driver,” Vincent said Wednesday. “He was not breaking up a fight. The suspect was upset that Roberts gave his alleged girlfriend a ride home.”

After the shooting, Anderson left the scene in an SUV, authorities said. He was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with one count of felony murder, DeKalb jail records show. He is being held without bond.
