The 78-year-old Ohio man accused of causing a wreck that killed a Cobb County woman was arrested Thursday.

Thomas Carrol Dempsey surrendered at the Cobb County jail on charges stemming from the March 20 wreck in Marietta, booking records show. Dempsey was charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions in the death of Anna Marie Woodard, according to the arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Investigators believe Dempsey lost control of his 2011 Toyota Highlander while on the exit ramp from the Canton Road Connector to Cobb Parkway, Officer David Baldwin with Marietta police previously said. The Highlander traveled through the grass at a high rate of speed and hit a ditch, causing the vehicle to become airborne, Baldwin said. The SUV then landed on top of a brown 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was traveling northbound on Cobb Parkway, he said.

Both vehicles then slid across all lanes of Cobb Parkway before traveling down an embankment and hitting trees, Baldwin said. Two people in each vehicle were injured and transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, police said.

Woodard, 25, of Marietta, was critically injured in the wreck. She died from her injuries March 29.

An arrest warrant was issued April 1 for Dempsey, who sustained injuries in the wreck along with his wife. Dempsey was released around 11:45 a.m. after posting $25,000 bond, booking records show.
