A College Park man was charged with murder after he told police that he shot and killed his girlfriend, authorities said.

Hapeville officers learned Thursday night that Jerrell Duane Berger had walked into an Atlanta police precinct and made the confession, Hapeville police spokeswoman Andrea Boyce said. Berger said he committed the crime at the Hilton hotel on Virginia Avenue, which is near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Based on that information, Hapeville officers searched the hotel, Boyce said. Officers at first found no crime scene. However, Hilton staff soon found a woman who had been shot in one of the rooms.

Berger was charged with murder, false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Fulton County jail.

The investigation is ongoing, Boyce said.
