A man is dead and his father is in custody after an argument ended Thursday in gunfire, Clayton County police said.

An investigation into the shooting revealed 51-year-old James Perry and his 23-year-old son Akeem Perry had an argument that turned physical, police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said in an emailed statement. After the fight, James Perry allegedly got a gun and shot Akeem Perry at least once.

The shooting occurred about 9:20 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of Whaleys Lake Drive near Fayetteville Road in Jonesboro. Neighbors told Channel 2 Action News several children live at the residence, but detectives would not say if the children witnessed the shooting.

James Perry was taken to the Clayton County Police Department for questioning. He has since been charged with malice murder for the shooting death of his son, Marbury said.
