A nearly five-hour Clayton County police standoff at a home near Morrow ended peacefully Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened in the 2400 block of Wood Valley Drive.

According to Clayton County police spokesman Officer James Benson, a man assaulted a woman at the home and threatened her with a gun before allowing her and her son to leave the location. The man, however, refused to leave, and the SWAT team was called in.

After several hours, negotiators convinced the man to come out of the home and he was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center, Benson said. Warrants were later issued charging the suspect with aggravated assault, child cruelty and domestic battery charges.

The man’s identity was not released. It was unclear Thursday night if he remained hospitalized or had been taken to jail.
