An Alabama man is behind bars in Fulton County more than a month after he allegedly punched a panhandler repeatedly on a MARTA train, authorities said.

Bernard Edward Daniel, 31 was arrested Sept. 12 in Talladega, where he lived, and he was extradited to the Fulton County jail Tuesday to face several charges, MARTA police said in a news release.

He’s accused of attacking a panhandler on Aug. 17, punching the man after saying, “I’m tired of you asking for change,” AJC.com previously reported. The incident was captured on cellphone video.

Channel 2's Matt Johnson reports.

The incident happened just before 8:15 p.m. as the train was traveling east to the Georgia State station, police previously said. Passengers told Channel 2 Action News the man being attacked is someone who rides the trains frequently, asking for money.

MARTA previously sent Channel 2 a statement regarding the incident that said: “We take matters of this nature seriously and request the ongoing assistance of our passengers in keeping our buses, trains and stations safe. If you witness violence or other criminal activity, please alert your bus or rail operator.”

Daniel faces charges of battery, kidnapping, false imprisonment and robbery by force, police said. He remains in jail without bond, jail records show.
